Planning on Giving to Typhoon Haiyan Victims?

The news has been full of pictures of the devastation in the Philippines caused by Typhoon Haiyan. Many people want to help. Unfortunately, with disasters such as this, scams appear almost immediately. Many of these scams take the form of fake charities.

Appeals for donations may be on the television or come by email, through websites, and social media. Some appeals may even come over the phone. Before contributing, always check out a charity. The BBB Wise Giving Alliance has reports on nationally soliciting charitable organizations. Contact the charity directly, not through an intermediary.
